Oh Clarence, My Clarence!

For some reason, unknown to me, I started thinking about Clarence today. My first love. Wonder why?

Yes, my first love. Clarence and I were tight. We were together for years. I knew him since I was, oh, maybe 12. I met him through my dad. But we didn't get close until I was about 16. He taught me everything I know. Sigh.

Looking back, he was a bit old for me. But I was young and naive- who cares about age, right?! He was also very close to my sister, Becky L. I guess you could say we shared him. We'd go out late, have a good time. He'd always make sure we made it home safely. Sometimes we went out all three of us, sometimes it was just me and him... or her and him. But I was never jealous. Sisters are supposed to share, right? I have a picture of the three of us. I'd scan it and post it, but it's not flattering on my part.

Then Becky and I graduated from high school. She went off to South Carolina, I to Georgia. But he stayed behind in Pennsylvania. He remained close to my parents. They'd give me updates on him now and then. Over Christams and Summer Breaks, we'd start up where we left off. Still, always the three of us.
.
Then, my Junior year, Clarence left, moved in with some girl I went to high school with. Very sad. Every once in a while, when I'm visiting my parents, I'll see him in town . But it's always from a distance. And normally when I'm driving by her house.

But that's ok. Now I ride around with Darcy. He's a bit younger than Clarence, more fitted for me. I actually quite prefer my '01 Ford Taurus to that old '89 Plymouth Acclaim.

What? You didn't know I was talking about my first car? You thought I was talking about a guy? What kind of girl do you think I am?!

So, the question: Tell me about your first car. What year, make, model? Did it have a name? Share all the dirty details!

Well, we were pretty old compared to some first car owners, I was 28 and the missus 34. We got a ruby red Subaru wagon, and had it several years...it never let us down. Our second car is a bit of a wonder though, still in the driveway, headed toward 200 thousand miles--it has been in maybe 5-6 accidents and fender benders, but other than that nothing ever wrong, and 13 years old too.....

great question! My first love-on-wheels was a 1974 Ford Maverick, the sporty version with the spoiler on the back. The original color was yellow & black but I quickly had it re-painted a dark chocolate brown. (Hey,it was the early 80's, earth tones were still in vogue.) My boyfriend installed an awesome sound system that cost nearly as much as the car did, blew the speakers on Pat Benatar.

That car lasted through my teen years and an early marriage, finally gave it up when I had my first child at the ripe old of 20.

I thought you were talking about a guy till I got to the end... and I was confused because I was wondering how you and Becky shared him LOL .. I'm glad it's a car :D

My first love was and still is my Volvo. He's hot! I'll never leave him but one day he might leave me... he's starting to sound funny... I hope he's not getting sick.

~gr~ Wow! That's one amazing car! They don't make 'em like that anymore.

~rapunzel~ Isn't just like all guys to be obsessed w/ sound systems?!

~liya~ Hehehe! I'm glad you fell for it! ... That's so sad that your Volvo's getting sick. Take him to the "hospital." Maybe they can fix him up.

Will everyone think I'm spoiled if I say my daddy got me a camaro for a graduation present?
