Sorry, No Question Here!

I don't have a ? to ask... Just wanted to vent my "I'm scared and need to share" mood.

I think I have one of those skin cancer mole things. Eek!

(Sory if the following grosses you out. Feel free to not read)

For years, I had this freckle/mole thing on my arm. It was light colored and flat. Well, over the past year, it has gotten a bit discolored, w/ dark splotches around the rim. Over the past two or so months, it has started getting bigger, and is a bump instead of flat. Over the past week, it's gotten bigger still, and a bit darker, and it hurts if I touch it.

This morning it was only partly dark brown. I haven't looked at it all day... I was wearing a long-sleeved shirt. Just changed into my jammies... HOLY CRAP! It's now entirely dark brown. Eek! (There are some other things, but I don't want to gross everyone out)

Good thing I called the dr yesterday to make an appt. It's not until next week. I hope it doesn't swallow up my whole arm by then!

I was just doing some "research" online, and came across this. Now I'm all scared it's the worst kind of skin cancers- melanoma. From what it described, this may be a late-staged thing... Like it may have spread to my lungs, heart, and brain. I have had trouble breathing the past few days... Aaaahhhhh! Why did I wait so long to have this checked out?! I feel like such a hypochondriac!

First, big hugs here. My exH suffers from skin cancer and actually did have the "scary" melanoma but let me tell you, it didn't look the way you describe. It was flat with irregular borders. The skin cancer doctor told us that it's *rarely* raised things you need to worry about, it's the flat irregular things. Of course I'm not a doctor but I'd advise you not to worry too much at this point. Ok? I know, easier said than done. Please feel free to email me if you want to chat. I am the Queen of Worry so I understand, but 99.9% of the time my worries have been unfounded.

abby, you're being melodramatic... remember, I'M the one who had the melanoma. Although, since we have the same DNA, maybe yours is too... hmm?

you may have to go to a dermatoligist, not just your regular doctor.

~Rapunzel~ Thank you for the kind words and encouragement!

~Becky~ Once you see it, you'll understand why I'm freaking.

Hopefully it's not that bad and they'll just remove it, but you are wise to get it checked out. Good luck. I'm going next week to get a whole body mole check.

It turned out ok. THe mole had died, and that's why it was changing. Who knew that moles can die?!
