Like a Moth to the Flame

I hope you enjoyed the previous post! I also hope you weren't too tortured by waiting to hear the whole story! This is how it went down:

Guy and I were walking across a field, a little later than midnight. Could hardly see a thing. We were talking about the dark- I shared that I don't like being out in the dark (too many bad experiences, which I may share in future posts). He was teasing me about that, and couldn't understand why I wouldn't like the dark. It is right in the midst of this conversation that we see the aforementioned white floaty thingys. They were so blurry, we couldn't figure out what it was. Now- I don't believe in ghosts, but there was the smallest millisecond that I wondered if there really were ghosts!

We both were curious. That was my major feeling, not so much scared. I tried focusing my eyes, but it just wouldn't get clear. So we both started to slowly walk forward, drawn to it, whispering about if the other had figured it out yet.

What happened next seemed to happen too fast to almost be real. I heard this sound like thundering wind, coming closer and closer. I no longer saw any white, but could sense something coming at us fast, and the thundering getting louder. The ground shook. Then they were next to me, then past me, then gone... quiet. (Any guesses yet?!)

I'm not sure at what point I realized what they were. I think it was when they were right next to me... Boy, did I scream!

It was a family of deer! White-tailed deer, to be exact. It was their white tails reflecting the moonlight that we saw in the distance. They were so close, if I had stretch out a hand, I could have touched one.

So then I turned to the guy and said sternly, "THAT is why I'm afraid of the dark!"

Nothing ever happened w/ that guy. Ah well. That's the story of my life!

Hi Abigail!

I like your new format.

I'd froze at that experience...and probably found myself clinging tightly to the guy and probably would turn him off.

I wouldn't venture out with a guy in a dark night though.

What a great (you could almost say "dear") story ;-)

My inappropriate reaction was "Oh, deer, how cute." But i bet it wasn't so cute until it was over.

~twilight~ Great to see you back!

~Michael~ I have loads of great stories... Though this is the only "dear" one!

~meno~ Not at all cute, til it was over. Now, I laugh... I love the crazy things that happen to me!

They are a bit spooky sometimes. two nights ago I looked out the window and 10 deer were walking through our back yard in the moonlight. They're so quiet, but fairly large....so sure,a bit spooky.

Deer are a bit freaky, I was once walking through the woods with a friend (in Cape May, NJ) and this deer came running full speed right by us. Very scary before we figured out what it was.

~gr~ Yes... Very spooky. Especially when there's so many of them.

~SilverNeurotic~ You know my pain!
