Recycle, Reduce, Reuse

[I suppose you could say that I'm cheating. This is a repeat post... but from my other blog: Adventures of Mommyhood. PLEASE, do not look up the answers. That would make me very sad.]

I must preface this by saying-- I DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING, and I may make mistakes. I don't feel like doing too much research, so you'll just have to go by what I say.

So, here are some statements about the Amish of Lancaster County, PA. Yes, I live amongst them. Read the questions and then guess if they're true or false:

1) Amish people are really poor
2) The Amish don't have to pay taxes
3) If you see a horse and buggy on the road, its an Amish person
4) They keep COMPLETELY separated from "the English." [what they call non-Amish folk]
5) The Pennsylvania Dutch come from Holland
6) Red barns were originally painted with animal blood
7) Some Amish grow tobacco and marijuana
8) The Mennonites are the same as the Amish
9) Amish live only in Lancaster County
10) Lancaster is underdeveloped and mainly farm land.

Okay, I suppose that is enough for now. Have fun guessing! I'll give the answers later.

1) Amish people are really poor...No, they own and run business such as stores and of course farming.
2) The Amish don't have to pay taxes...not sure.
3) If you see a horse and buggy on the road, its an Amish person...Most likely...
4) They keep COMPLETELY separated from "the English." [what they call non-Amish folk...Nope, they still come to the "outside" world for various reasons. Some of the kids go to regular school (least where my aunt lives in Indiana), their stores are open to everyone...
5) The Pennsylvania Dutch come from Holland-I think Germany...Deutch=Dutch.
6) Red barns were originally painted with animal blood...no clue
7) Some Amish grow tobacco and marijuana...not sure
8) The Mennonites are the same as the Amish...different branch, less strict, they drive, have electricity, etc.
9) Amish live only in Lancaster County...nope, their all over the US and outside as well.
10) Lancaster is underdeveloped and mainly farm land...quite touristy actually.

Hmmmm ... it's late and I'm tired. I think I'd get them all wrong so I'm not even gonna try. :)

I'd say they are ALL wrong.

(The red of red barns is Iron Oxide.... And always was. From clay pigments originally.)
